Fitting Fiberglass Fire Sleeve

May 13, 2024

The Sleeve It fiberglass fire sleeve, made in Britain and supplied by National Firesleeve, is used in a huge range of industries, right across the world. From automotive to aerospace, from deep in the mines to high up in orbit with the space program, our fiberglass firesleeves protect wires and pipes, cables and conduits in all kinds of extreme environments.

How to fit fiberglass fire sleeve

National Firesleeve fiberglass fire sleeve is manufactured to precise tolerances, so they fit your pipe and cables perfectly whatever the cross-section, whatever the length.

They can be supplied to the exact length you need, to reduce waste and control costs, or you can simply cut them to the length required. No special tools are needed, as fiberglass firesleeves can be cut quickly and easily using strong scissors. Yet once in place, they can deliver durable, reliable protection for many years, depending on the environment in which they are used.

Retro-fitting fiberglass firesleeves

National Firesleeve fiberglass firesleeves are normally fitted as part of the construction as an installation is built, slipping easily along the full length of pipes, conduits and cables as each one is fitted in place.

However, it is also possible to retro-fit fiberglass firesleeves to upgrade an installation or vehicle, using our fire-resistant hook and loop fastening system. This creates the same high level of protection as the continuous sleeve, but allows you to install them almost anywhere. Fire sleeve can be installed on almost any wiring or pipework, regardless of how long the original installation has been in place. Installation is simple and straightforward and can be done without the need for special tools or skills.

Repairs and replacements

The flexibility and versatility of our hook and loop fasten fiberglass firesleeves also makes them ideal for replacing existing protection that has worn out, failed or been subject to an accident or incident.

The old protective covering can simply be removed and National Firesleeve’s products installed in their place. This enables continued safe operation of older systems, with protection brought up to the highest of modern standards. Our expert team will be happy to advise on the best way to repair or replace your existing system to meet modern standards.

Pre-approved to industry standards

National Firesleeve fiberglass firesleeves have been designed to meet stringent standards for a range of industries, including railways and mines. That means that new or replacement installations do not require independent inspection to be approved for operation.

The products are certified for use by MSHA and have been independently tested to UL94 – V-0 and IEC 60695-11-10 and 60695-11-20 and ISO 9772 and 9773. This means that the product is pre-approved for use in many industries and is ready to go from the first day of installation. You can see our full range of certifications online.

Your product to your specifications

At National Firesleeve, we do not expect our customers to adapt their needs to meet the specifications of our products. It’s the other way around. We manufacture our products to meet your specific needs. This includes the diameter of the fiberglass firesleeve, the precise length of sleeving required, and even the finishing color.

Our fiberglass firesleeves are available in a wide range of colors to help you to differentiate between different cables, pipes and conduits. This is especially useful in complex configurations, and it can add to the aesthetics where such elements are on show within the fabric of a building or vehicle.
