In an increasingly electronic and automated world, the protection of electrical cables and wiring has never been more important. So many systems are now autonomous, operating remotely, often in extreme environments. These systems need to be safe, and more importantly they need to be dependable, and with National Firesleeve XGR flexible sleeving you can make that happen quickly easily and affordably.
What is National Firesleeve XGR?
XGR delivers the same protection as our standard firesleeves, but with an increased flexibility and expandability that make it more versatile and more practical in a wide range of situations.
XGR is manufactured using a unique glass braid construction which creates an interior bore that can expand up to 300%. The smallest size will expand from 2.0mm to 6.0mm, while the largest will expand from 20.0mm to 50.0mm. 2.0mm to 6.0mm initial bores are available in 100m reels while larger bores of 8.0mm to 20.0mm available in 50m reels.
Whatever size you choose, you’ll enjoy protection at operating temperatures from -20°C to 220°C, with spot temperature protection and hot splash resistance up to 450°C. You’ll also benefit from impressive abrasion resistance, thanks to the tough resin compounds woven into the glass, along with chemical resistance to a wide range of fluids and solvents found in engines and industrial settings.
National Firesleeve XGR for server rooms
Because XGR is flexible, without compromising its structural integrity, it’s ideal for a wide range of applications where a more rigid, standard bore firesleeves would not be appropriate or would be difficult to install.
For example, National Firesleeve XGR is widely used in data centres, office server rooms and other electrical installations. The expanding bore and flexible sleeving make it an ideal form of protection for bunches of electrical cables and wires. Not only does this keep the cables safe from damage from heat and wear and tear, it also allows promotes smart cable management.
The easy to install, expanding nature of our flexible firesleeves makes it simple to cover cable bundles of varying thickness, wherever they extend from the equipment. This keeps cables tidy and allows you to clearly identify associated cables when it comes to maintenance and repair.
National Firesleeve XGR for engines
The same flexibility and expansion make XGR the preferred protection for tight engine bays, everywhere from cars and vans to marine engines and even offshore wind turbines.
Once again, it’s the flexibility that makes National Firesleeve XGR a practical and timesaving choice, delivering high levels of thermal and abrasion protection for cables connecting equipment with control panels, remote controls and communications systems. MSHA approved, National FireSleeve XGR is available in different colours, so it can be used as an easy colour identifier for hoses in extreme environments.
The variable internal bore means flexible XGR can be used to protect the whole length of pipework and conduits, even where the width varies from place to place. In this way, a single product can be used along the full length of irregular installations, removing the need for junctions between different widths.
National Firesleeve XGR for the future
Braided, flexible sleeving is essential today and they will only become more vital as we move further into the future of robotic devices and automated machines. The more we come to depend on such devices, the more important it is to protect their core wiring from heat and abrasion damage.
With so much of our world dependent on the digital realm, even the smallest loss of power or system failure can have significant, and even catastrophic consequences, with wide reaching ripple effects.
